Colors

There are so many fun ways to learn about color!  We've focused on color identification and color mixing this week.  We spent quite a bit of time reading and even singing the book, Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? and even made our own pocket book version that we can read ourselves and practice our matching skills with when we place the correct character in the correct pocket.  We also started learning how to retell stories, and have practiced retelling the Brown Bear story using characters on the felt board. 

We used our hands to mix colored shaving cream in the sensory table,

and we created and mixed using colored water and a light table.

We felt like scientists!

We also watched colored "blobs" in action with our lava lamp science experiment.

Magic!

Week Three- ABC's

We focused on letters the third week of school.  We used the book Chicka Chicka Book Boom as the springboard for many of our activities.

We made the letters in our names out of playdough,

Used our arms and hands to make Chicka Chicka trees, then spelled our names

(starting from the top, of course)

and we worked together to create and paint our own Chicka Chicka tree!

A Recap of our First Few Weeks

We're off to a great start in 4K!  We began the year spending a lot of time getting to know our environment and our new friends.  Our first theme was, "All About Me."  We talked a lot about our similarities and differences, and did lots of comparing and contrasting.  We focused on our names and the letters and sounds in them.

We played in Centers,

learned how to get in a line,

had lots of fun playing on the playground,

created and learned together,

and read great books with both our "book buddies" and

our human buddies.

The next week's theme was "Apples."  we learned about the parts of apples, where they come from, and that there are different varieties.  We graphed the colors of the apples we brought in from home and if we did or did not like a variety of different apple samples.  We made necklaces out of Apple Jacks, made a class book modeled after the favorite book 10 Apples Up on Top, and did many other apple-related activities.  Our favorite activity was definitely when we made and ate our own apple pies.  Yummy!
