October 10

Today we started learning about our theme, Community Helpers.  We read this book,

and made a list of the different jobs people do.  We talked about the jobs our parents do and the jobs we might like to do when we grow up.  The kids have so many great ideas!  We talked specifically about mail carriers and the job they do to help the community.  We had a special Post Office Center to play in and pretended to be postal workers.

We wrote letters and put them in envelopes, addressed envelopes and priority mail boxes, and put pretend stamps on them that we "bought" at the Post Office counter (.04/stamp, what a deal!), sorted mail, and delivered the mail.  How fun!

The other highlight of center time was the new sand in our sensory table.  It packs well and was great for building sand castles.

Logan brought snack and showed us his dinosaur for show & tell.

We practiced our hand symbols with our alphabet book,

and practiced making letter "H"s with our Handwriting Without Tears sticks.

We did "stations," which is when we do a rotation of specific learning activities throughout the room, with a partner.   We practiced writing "H"s on gelboards and paper,

Practiced our cutting skills,

Read books on the LeapPad,

Put together puzzles of Community Helpers,

and played a math game with Mrs. Tenpas.

We ended the day by playing outside with the parachute which was so much fun.  Too bad Mrs. Greenfield forgot to bring the camera out :)
